Feeling stuck at home and looking for a fun, simple DIY? Vintage tin planters are an easy way to spark joy in your home with a nostalgic touch! At Cultivated Candle Co., we LOVE bringing new life into vintage pieces with a modern twist. P.S. If your CCC vintage candle has melted to it’s last burn, this is a perfect way to reuse the tin!

What You’ll Need

  • Vintage Tins – or any other tins of your choice! Be sure tins are larger than your original planters.
  • House Plants
  • Potting Mix
  • Hammer
  • Nail
  • Coffee Filters or Paper Towels
  • Scissors
  • Pen/Pencil

Choosing Your Plant

When choosing your plant, do a little research beforehand about what plant matches your lifestyle the best. We recommend the snake plant as a low-maintenance option, because it doesn’t require a lot of light and you can water it every 2-3 weeks.

Drainage Holes

Hammering drainage holes in your tin is important, so that water can drain freely and air becomes available for the roots. Be sure to add a coffee filter or paper towel to the bottom of your tin, so that soil doesn’t leak out of the holes!
