Clean Ingredients, Strong Scents at Cultivated Candle Co.

Clean and strong. We’ve been moving this direction with Cultivated Candle Co. for a while now. With the launch of our new Summer Collection today, it feels like the right time to formally share the what and why behind our commitment to the cleanest, highest-quality candle ingredients paired with strong scents. 

I didn’t mention it in Stories, on any CCC social media channels or anywhere else, but many of you noticed and reached out...I became A LOT healthier last year. Chronic disease and illness runs in my family and before last year, I pretty much lived in fear of not having control over my health. Last March, just as the pandemic rolled in, I began reading, watching and listening to information on health, wellness and anti-inflammation. From nutrition, to toxin awareness, to fitness, to mindfulness and more, I searched for information on how I could make healthier choices. When you love what you do (hey, CCC!) and life gets busy, it’s so easy to lose track of one of life’s most important priorities - Taking care of your health. 

So how does this all relate to CCC? Much research has shown that certain fragrance oils in the industry and products created via those fragrance oils, like perfumes, cosmetics, candles and more, may be made with harmful chemicals. The fragrance industry hasn’t always been the most transparent with health risks associated with use. Because I started taking a holistic approach to health that wasn’t only focused on improving my nutrition and physical exercise, I had to dig into this as a candle-maker and candle lover. “Ignorance is bliss” has never sat well with me. 

We care about making candles that are safe to use for daily life and the long haul. That’s why when we started Cultivated Candle Co. in 2017, we knew that paraffin wax or soy “blends” (aka soy blended with other waxes, many times paraffin) would not be the wax we used. All natural soy wax was the perfect fit for us with our base knowledge of candles and well-being at that time. 

But that’s just a conscious decision made at that start of this crazy candle journey. I was visiting my grandparents this past weekend (85 & 88 years old) and they were explaining to me that they knew what the term “woke” meant. If you haven’t heard this modern slang term, it means to be aware. At CCC, we like to stay “woke” on providing the highest quality products by using safer ingredients, so that you don’t have to worry about the safety of these fragrances in your home. So, let’s talk about scent oils and fragrances. 

This transition isn’t something happening just now; we’ve been working on it and some of this may not be news to loyal CCC fans and followers. 

All CCC candles and wax melts are phthalate-free and free of CA Prop 65 Reportable Ingredients. 

We’re taking it up a notch with the latest Summer Collection and all future CCC scents (this also applies to the Clementine Basil Candle) that restricts items even outside of the CA Prop 65 Reportable Ingredients list.

• The phthalate-free and CA Prop 65 Reportable Ingredients standards already on all CCC candles
• Carcinogen-free (These are materials known or thought to cause cancer)
• Mutagen-free (Materials that change the DNA of a cell, harming the cell and causing diseases like cancer)
• Reproductive toxin free (Toxins that adversely affect reproductive organs and increase the risk of birth defects)
• Organ toxin free (These are toxins that can cause adverse effects or disease within specific bodily organs)
• Acute toxin free (Toxins that can cause adverse effects from a single exposure of spillage or ingestion) 
• Free from common hazardous chemicals
