A Reflection on Three Years of Cultivated Candle Co.

Three years ago today we launched Cultivated Candle Co. The idea to candle-fy vintage pieces popped into my head in late 2016. By May 2017, Jeremy asked if I wanted to try to make that idea a reality and test to see if we liked candle-making. The answer to that test was positive. 

From there, we knew we wanted to make more candles and pursue building a business. It was officially time to get to work. At this time, work started in the kitchen of our 595 sq. ft. downtown apartment, which we quickly grew out of before formally launching the business. It’s so funny, we actually had our ideas for scents, culture and products WAY before we decided on the name Cultivated Candle Co. Thanks to many brainstorms at Denny’s, we landed on the term "cultivated" by August 2017.

Cultivate means to acquire or develop. We loved this term because so much of what we were planning to do at CCC was to acquire vintage items and develop unique scents, as well as a unique brand experience. Since the day Cultivated Candle Co. was given its name, the term has fit so perfectly with everything about our business. Most importantly, the cultivated following (aka CCC family) we have now. That’s YOU! 

I didn’t know what to expect when starting CCC and it’s so strange that I had never thought about starting a business. That’s now strange to me because I can’t imagine my life without owning this business. The cultivated group of amazing customers and followers who engage, shop and support Cultivated Candle Co. is easily our favorite part of the business. Hands down. 

We’re celebrating our 3rd anniversary because of you. This past year has been difficult on so many people and to still have your support means the world to us. I hope that we not only make your home smell amazing, but that we also share light, positivity and connection with every interaction you have with us.

Since our last anniversary we have hired two members of the team, moved to a new and improved headquarters, launched 3+ new product variations, launched bigger and better signature candle collections, increased the size of our Antique Candle Uploads by 100+ more vintage candles every upload and much more that is totally slipping my mind right now because…#2020.
